A small demonstration of the vastness of the Quran and it’s use of the Arabic language – Explained by Umar Quinn ;
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ
It is He Who has created the heavens and the earth in truth [6:73]
You will notice, this ayah occurs many times in the Quran.
The prepositions in Arabic احراف الجر are (From) من (To ) إلى (By) ب (About) عن ( in ) في
These are usually inserted between two nouns, the proposition ب (i.e. حرف الجر ) which generally carries the meaning “by” but can other meanings.
It carries 3 main meanings as it pertains to this verse as explained by Ibn Qayim Al Jawzi
General principle in tafsir when there are multiple الاحتمالات لا تتعارض subjects mentioned within the ayah which do not contradict each other or anything else of the religion in general then they are all understood to be meant.
So Ibn Qayim goes on to say that بالحق carries three meanings;
سابق (Previous)- the previous truth (e.g. the emanation of the heavens and earth came from Allah )
مقارن (Comparative) – the entirety of the creation is concurrent with (i) the truth of Allah (ii) the oneness of the prophets and messengers and (iii) the reality of the day of judgement
سَنُرِيهِمۡ ءَايَٰتِنَا فِي ٱلۡأٓفَاقِ وَفِيٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡحَقُّۗ أَوَلَمۡ يَكۡفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ شَهِيدٌ
We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their own-selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Quran) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things? [41:53]
غاية – (purpose ) – for the sake of the truth (i) a purpose that is intended from the creation i.e. worship of Allah (ii) the purpose intended for the creation i.e. the reward.
