Below is an extract from Ibn Kathir’s summary, physical description of the Messenger of Allah, as mentioned in his famous work “الفصول في سيرة الرسول” “Al-Fusool fi Seerat ar-Rasool” or “Chapters in the life of the Messenger of Allah”
English Translation
“He ﷺ was not extremely tall, nor was he short. He was not extremely white, nor was he brown. He was not curly-haired, nor was his hair straight. He died whilst not having twenty white hairs upon his head.
He was fine in build, and he had broad shoulders. His hair reached down to his shoulders, (and at sometimes it was down to his ear lobes), and at times it was half-way down his ears.
He had a thick beard; and his hands were sturdy, meaning that he had large fingers. He had a large head, and he had large joints.
His face was roundish; the pupils of his eves were very black, and he had long eyelashes. The corners of his eyes were red.
He had fine hairs running from his chest to his navel, just like a downy twig.
When he walked, it was as if he was going down a slope, i.e. he walked forcefully; and a ‘slope’ (sabab) means an incline.
His face beamed like the shining of the full moon: it was as if his face was indeed like the moon.
He had a beautiful voice, his cheeks were not prominent, he had a broad mouth, and his chest and belly were equal.
He had hair upon his shoulders, forearms, and upper-chest. His wrists were long, and his palms were spacious.
He had some reddishness in the whites of his eyes, meaning that the corners were elongated.
He had lean heals, meaning that he had little flesh upon his heels.
Between his shoulder blades was the ‘Seal of Prophethood’ (Khātamun-Nubuwwah) which was like a partridge egg, and like a pigeon’s egg.
When he walked, it was as if the earth became rolled up for him; and they had to exert themselves to catch up with him, whereas he would not be exerting himself at all.
Urdu Translation
ھمارے پیارے نبی کریم ﷺ کا قد مبارک نہ ہی بہت دراز تھا اور نہ ہی بہت پست تھا ۔ وہ نہ ہی زيادہ گورے
تھے نہ زيادہ سانولے۔ آپ ﷺ کے بال مبارک نہ ذیادہ گھنگریالے تھے نہ ہی ذیادہ سیدھے ۔ بوقت وصال نبی اکرم ﷺ کے سر مبارک میں سفید بالوں کی تعداد بیس (۲۰) بھی نہ تھی۔
نبی اقدس ﷺ کا جسم اطہر انتہائی متوازن تھا ۔ کندھے مبارک کشادہ تھے ، آپ ﷺ کے گیسو مبارک کندھوں تک پہنچ گئے تھے ، بعض اوقات کانوں کی لو تک رکھا کرتے تھے اور بعض اوقات کاندھوں سے اوپر ھوا کرتے تھے ۔
سرور کونین ﷺ کی ریش مبارک گھنی اور خوبصورت تھی ۔ آپ ﷺ کے ھاتھ مبارک مضبوط تھے یعنی انگشتِ مبارک قدرے لمبی تھیں ۔ آپ ﷺ کا سر مبارک مناسب ، خوبصورت اور حسین تھا اور جوڑے مبارک کشادہ تھے۔ ھمارے نبی اکرم ﷺ کا چہرۂ انور گول اور پُرکشش تھا ۔
ھمارے پیارے نبی ﷺ کی عینین مبارک ( آنکھیں ) کالی تھیں . نبی آخر الزماں ﷺ کی آنکھوں کے گونے سرخ اور پلکیں دراز تھیں ۔
ھمارے آقا کریم ﷺ کا سینہ مبارک کشادہ تھا۔ سینہ مبارک سے لیکر ناف تک۔ بال کی باریک دھاری تھی۔
آپ ﷺ جب چلتے تو ایسا محسوس ھوتا تھا جیسے کسی اونچان سے ڈھلان کی طرف جارھے ھوں ، چال مبارک انتہائی پست اور پر وقار تھی ۔
سرورِ کائنات کا چہرۂ انور بمثل مہتاب ( چاند) منور اور چمکدار تھا گویا چہرۂ انور چاند سا حسین تھا ۔
آپ ﷺ کی آواز مبارک دھیمی اور پرکیف تھی ۔ آپ ﷺ کے گال مبارک نمایاں نہیں تھے ۔ چہرۂ انور کشادہ اور چمکدار تھا ۔ پیٹ اور سینہ دونوں متوازن اور برابر تھے۔
ھمارے نبی کریم ﷺ کے کاندھوں ، بازوؤں اور سینہ کے اوپری حصہ پر ریشمی بال تھے ۔ آپ کی کلائیاں دراز اور ہتھیلیاں کشادہ تھیں ۔
آپ ﷺ کی آنکھوں کی سفیدی میں کچھ سرخی بھی تھی اور کنارے لمبے تھے ۔ آپ ﷺ کی ایڑی مبارک پر تھوڑا سا گوشت تھا ۔
رحمۃ اللعالمین ﷺ کے کاندھوں کے درمیان ” مھر نبوت ” تھی جو کہ کبوتر اور تیتر کے انڈے کے برابر تھی ۔
آپ ﷺ جب چلتے تو زمین آپ ﷺ کیلئے سمیٹ دی جاتی تھی ۔ نبی اکرم صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم کا ساتھ پانے کیلئے زمین کو گویا خود محنت کرنا پڑتی تھی ۔ جبکہ حضورِ اقدس
ﷺ کو خود مشقت فرمانا نہ پڑتی تھی ۔
